Introduction

The Department of Roganidana was established in the year 2010 following the bifurcation of the Department of Kayachikitsa. Since its establishment, the department has been actively involved in a range of academic activities aimed at strengthening diagnostic acumen and clinical competence among students.
The department conducts structured theory classes and practical or clinical sessions for Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) students during their Second Professional year. These academic activities focus on the integration of theoretical knowledge with practical application, thereby enhancing students’ understanding of disease processes and diagnostic methods.
In addition to undergraduate teaching, the department regularly organizes clinical discussions for Manasika postgraduate students of the Department of Kayachikitsa in the Kayachikitsa Outpatient Department. These sessions enable postgraduate students to apply theoretical concepts to real-time clinical situations.
House surgeons actively participate in frequent clinical discussions conducted in both the Inpatient Department and the Kayachikitsa Outpatient Department. These activities contribute to the development of clinical reasoning, diagnostic decision-making, and patient management skills. Collectively, these academic initiatives reflect the department’s commitment to comprehensive education and hands-on clinical training for future Ayurvedic practitioners.
Major Facilities for Students
The Department of Roganidana provides well-developed and adequately equipped teaching laboratory facilities to support undergraduate and postgraduate training. The laboratory is designed to facilitate extensive hands-on learning while accommodating a large number of students comfortably.
The teaching laboratory is equipped with a hematology cell counter, an advanced LED display system, more than fifty microscopes, and an equal number of blood pressure apparatuses. A granite-topped practical area with sufficient seating ensures durability and convenience during practical sessions.
For pathology-oriented learning, the laboratory houses a collection of organ specimens and histopathology slides of various organs. Essential equipment such as an incubator, needle destroyer, and multiple biochemistry kits are available to support a wide range of academic demonstrations and practical activities.

Clinical skill training is strengthened through the availability of a cardiac auscultatory mannequin and a clinical examination mannequin. The laboratory is further equipped with an electrocardiogram machine and a Naditharangini machine for Nadi Pareeksha, enabling students to gain exposure to both contemporary diagnostic tools and traditional Ayurvedic diagnostic techniques. The department also maintains a dedicated departmental library within the Roganidana teaching laboratory. The library comprises 127 books. Also 50 charts, 21 organ specimens, 6 anatomical and clinical models, and 26 histopathology specimen slides, systematically arranged to support teaching, learning, and revision.
